At the Winter Empowerment Weekend (WEW), students from public campuses across Ontario gather for a four-day weekend of student empowerment for public campus ministries, creating life-long friendships that can truly be life-changing. The weekend features empowering resource kits, inspired preaching, practical workshops, scripture-based illustrations, walk-in prayer stations, powerful testimonies, uplifting praise & worship, dynamic social engagement, sportive campsite activities, and, of course, the beautiful open-nature. By the end of the weekend, students not only step closer to Christ, but also leave with a renewed commitment to serving God with everything they have on their public campuses. Our mission of empowering students to reach the campus and change the world is realized through this weekend event (amongst other province-wide initiatives).
Pastor Danielle Placide
Danielle Placide left home at 18 and did not return—physically or spiritually—until the age of 24. During that time, she studied Esthetics and worked in the beauty industry, eventually owning her own business, Flawless Diva’s.
Everything changed when Danielle encountered God and surrendered her life to Him. After being rebaptized, she asked the Lord what He desired for her life. Though she felt called to ministry, she resisted for a year, doubting that a young Black woman with tattoos would ever be accepted or belong in that space. Through persistent confirmation and divine reassurance, Danielle grew confident that the God who called her would also sustain her.
She graduated from Burman University with a degree in Theology in 2021 and was hired by the British Columbia Conference in 2022. She has served as an assistant pastor in Abbotsford and as lead pastor at Cornerstone and Grace Church. Danielle is currently pursuing her Master of Divinity at Andrews University.
Though her story is still being written, her greatest desire is to love God above all else and one day hear the words, “Well done, my good and faithful servant.”
